Expect the extreme Corvette 427 Convertible to cost about $100,000 when it arrives at dealers this summer.
Following its debut at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona, the Corvette 427 Convertible made its first show appearance at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Using carbon-fiber front fenders from a Corvette Z06, the carbon-fiber raised hood from the Z06 Carbon Edition and the hydroformed steel frame rails of the Corvette Grand Sport, the 427 Convertible is a mix of parts from other models. Similar to the ZR1, the exclusive 427 will have a specific VIN sequence. The 427 Convertible will come equipped with the world-class 505-bhp 7.0-liter V-8 engine paired with the Z06’s 6-speed manual transaxle, the only gearbox offered. Torque is rated at a robust 470 lb.-ft for the LS7 engine, making this the most powerful factory Corvette convertible ever sold. Magnetic Ride Control comes standard and the wheel/tire package is similar to the ZR1’s (unique wheels are part of the deal, but the chrome ones direct from the ZR1 parts bin are optional). With either wheel choice comes Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.
A curb weight of 3355 lb. is listed on the 427’s spec sheet, as are expected performance numbers of 3.8 sec. from 0 to 60 mph and 11.8 sec. for the quarter mile. Lateral acceleration is estimated at 1.04g and its top speed is rated at a hairdo-destroying 190 mph.
As with all 2013 model year Corvettes, the 427 Convertible is available with the 60th Anniversary Package consisting of an Arctic White color for the exterior, Blue Diamond leather interior with suede appointments and exclusive badging. The 427 Convertible’s top will come in blue, matching the sapphire interior.
